The Littlebury Energy Project is dedicated to helping the village understand its energy usage and finding ways to reduce it. The project’s overall goal is to transition the village from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources to decarbonise the community.
The Littlebury Energy Project has been awarded £40,000 from the Community Energy Fund (CEF) for a detailed study into low carbon heating for the village. This is government funding for the development of community based energy projects to benefit local areas.
We have hired Bioregional and EQUANS to provide technical expertise to Saffron Walden Community Energy to undertake an investigation into how to replace unsustainable ways of heating homes which rely on polluting fossil fuels, with a community renewable heat network for the village.
The study will assess the technical feasibility of providing heat to the village. We also aim to understand the technical and cost challenges faced by offering district heating to local homes.
Village input and engagement will be key to helping the project develop, so we’ll keep you updated on the project and its development here, and in the Village Views.
